queen rania on youtube

queen rania of jordan apes david letterman in this introduction to her youtube channel — make sure you get all the way through the laugh track to her number one reason.

les mis

ok, have to post this before the election is too distant a memory: yet another example of how theater groups armed with cheap video equipment, computers, and video sharing web sites can create an instant hit.

now les mis is still under copyright protection i believe, since it was scored in 1980. can we change the copyright fair use guidelines now? i’d really like to see more things like this, and i seriously doubt copyright protection was intended to prevent creative uses like this.

wassup

that was my favorite guerilla obama ad before the election, and you know, i think it still works after the election. this however, dates me, if you’re not familiar with the original video you should watch that first.

happy halloween!

tuva rap

i love the sound of tibetan throat singing monks, though i’m not as familiar with their cousins the tuvan throat singers.

here tuvan great ondar revisions throat singing for the modern west:

it’s not easy being green

for some reason when i’m saddened, i find solace in things that are sad. after my first major breakup, i listened to the saddest song i could find on a loop. when i feel lonely, i tend to avoid other people. i’m not inspired to reach out as much as lick my wounds in private. i’m not sure why, do you do this too? i guess i’m more of a sleep it off kind of guy.

this video of big bird singing at jim henson’s funeral may make you teary.

amazing grace

friend ian released his third song with music video. his songs are meaningful and powerful reminders of the odd world we live in and that we can inspire ourselves to help more. i love his work.

minor thing or beginning of a new era

it’s a minor thing, we’ve been doing it for years, but there’s something remarkable to me about the SpaceX commercial space launch this weekend. Major milestone? what do you think?

this video of the rocket’s launch is really awesome though!! I got goose bumps watching the second stage separation. Does NASA publish launches like this? They should post them on youtube for every launch, this is so inspiring. Really shows you what kind of amazing things we as humans can do. Now we just need to feed everyone.

it was wild to watch the engines and their exhaust change as the altitude changes. can you imagine being an astronaut and watching all of this first hand? that has GOT to change your perspective on things. tibetan teacher trungpa rinpoche used to answer “more over it” when asked for advice near the end of his life. i’m guessing astronauts know something about what he meant.
